The Second Circuit Court of Appeals heard arguments today by Attorney Mick Harrison on the First Amendment rights of 9/11 victim family members and WTC first responders to petition a Grand Jury.
Overarching questions of this hearing included:
“Do citizens have a First Amendment right to report crimes to a grand jury?”
“What are secrecy limits on grand jury proceedings?” and
“Do citizens have standing to sue the U.S. Attorney General for obstructing their First Amendment petition to a grand jury?”
The Court of Appeals will now decide the case based on the previously filed legal briefs from both sides and the arguments presented today by the government attorneys and by Attorney Harrison. (No word, so far, when the Court will be making its decision.)
You may find important details and a recording of these arguments at this link.
